The first fundamental biography of Yulian Semenovich Semenov (1931–1993), who was a writer, journalist, playwright, master of political detective fiction, author of such novels as “Seventeen Moments of Spring,” “Petrovka 38,” “TASS Is Authorized to Declare,” founder and first editor-in-chief of the newspaper “Sovershenno Sekretno,” president of the International Association of Detective and Political Novel. The publication covers the period from the childhood of the future writer to the late 1980s and is based on the chronology of the creation of books by Y. S. Semenov dedicated to domestic foreign intelligence — from the “diplomatic agent” of the Russian Empire Yan (Ivan) Vitkevich (1808–1839) to the cycle of works about Maxim Maksimovich Isaev — Stirlitz.
