The author presents the place of plants, flowers and herbs in Polish (and East Slavic) folk culture in the perspective of cultural and ecological networks of relations: woman-plant. The symbolism and use of plants are analyzed in close connection with the place of women in the social and family life of the village, as well as in the system of beliefs and customs. Thus, there are girlish plants (viburnum, cherry) and maiden plants (rue, rosemary, periwinkle), but also male plants (hops), and there are also plants with an ambivalent character (peas). The author shows that the attitude of peasants to the plant world testifies to their extensive knowledge of plants, and at the same time to the perception of plants in a mystical and symbolic way. In the folk universe, plants were endowed with autonomy and agency, manifested in help in human worries, but also in acts of revenge for their ill-treatment.
