The book is the result of more than a decade of research on the life of post-Soviet cities. The idea of creating a friendly city became a common theme that united seemingly heterogeneous research issues (Soviet public space, new technologies and digital cities, urban socialization, tactical urbanism, functions of the urban environment, etc.). A theoretical analysis of various approaches and directions for interpreting the concept of "urban environment" is presented, factors and mechanisms for the formation of the urban environment at the present stage are considered, a structural and functional model of a friendly city is proposed, as well as a system of parameters and criteria for its empirical assessment.
