"For us, the word Siberia is more associated with forced deportation, torture, cruelty and death, but historical facts show that there were also many Latvians who dared to take risks and go to Siberia to try to improve life by cultivating their own land. They succeeded, and their descendants still live in Siberia. In Augsbebros of the Omsk region, the first immigrants from Kurzeme arrived 126 years ago, dug up the fields, cultivated the land and established farms. Their descendants still live in the Upper Bebros, the Latvian language can be heard, the villagers have preserved the traditions of their ancestors, some of which have already been forgotten in Latvia. As Augsbebros says: "We stand for Latvians!", says Inara Antina, author of the book, participant of Augsbebru expeditions and teacher of the Latvian language.
