The study is dedicated to the origin and formation of catechesis as a separate genre of religious literature in Ukrainian and Belarusian culture of the end of the XVI–XVIIIth centuries. The author compares the catecheses with the catholic and protestant literary monuments of that time, that allows to understand, what influenced the orthodox and Greco-Catholic way of worship and how it evolved.
