This publication is based on chapters from the memoirs of cavalry general Pyotr Petrovich Kalitin (1853-1927), who took part in the Khiva campaign of 1873 as a volunteer, and the original album "Views and Types of the Khiva Khanate" belonging to General Nikolai Fedorovich Bardovsky (1832-1890), who took part in the Khiva campaign of 1873 as the head of the Separate Turkestan Rifle Brigade. The album "Views and Types of the Khiva Khanate", compiled by Second Lieutenant G. E. Krivtsov by order of Adjutant General Konstantin Petrovich von Kaufman, who commanded the troops operating against Khiva, is practically the only evidence of life at the Khiva court immediately after the entry of Russian troops into the capital of the khanate. Until now, most of the images in the photo album have not been published, despite the fact that they can serve as a rich scientific source.
