"Travels to Circassia" by Taitbout de Marigny discourses upon life of the Adyghe in the early XIXth century. As a Dutch consul in Odessa, de Marigny twice visited Circassia: in 1818 and 1824. The author recounts Circassian people's councils - bodies that settled the majority of disputable matters between villagers through setting fines for guilty persons no matter how hard their delinquencies were. Notes on this and a variety of other interesting aspects of Adyghe life in the early XIXth century make up the plot of the offered issue.
