The events of Vasyl Slapchuk's novel "The Trampled Grass of Heaven" take place in a remote Ukrainian village. Seventeen-year-old Khrystyna spends summer vacations in the family home together with her parents, aunt and grandmother, who take care of the girl. Christina's life is carefree, it seems to her that the whole world revolves around her. But by chance she finds out that her mother did not die during childbirth, but ran away with her lover. It turns out that a curse has been placed on her maternal line - her grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother also committed the same act and, worst of all, she herself will obviously be forced to repeat this act. How will a girl behave, whose childhood illusions have been shattered? Is she ready to enter the world of adulthood, or is she able to accept her fate? Slapchuk's novel is a realistic story with some touches of mysticism, which is designed to emphasize the whimsicality of the world created by people when they forget that they are created in the image of God.
