Pavlo Zahrebelnyi (1924–2009) is a Ukrainian writer, Hero of Ukraine, laureate of the Shevchenko Prize. After being wounded and being in a concentration camp, he served with the British mission in Germany, after which he was detained and held in a Soviet infiltration camp. He worked as the editor-in-chief of the Literary Gazette. He was removed from the board of the Union of Writers of Ukraine due to denunciations. "Thousand-year-old Mykolai" is his science fiction novel about a man who lived for more than ten centuries - from the time of Prince Volodymyr to the present day. At the same time, he lived more than one life - he died and was reborn every time, and always with the name Mykolai.
