It is hard to accept that World War II is already a thing of the past. After all, it is still alive in the stories of witnesses to history, in the activities of social activists and educators, in the discussions of politicians. And what has been left of it in the lives of families of Polish women and men who survived German concentration camps? The book presents the author's many years of research on the Polish second generation of camp survivors, i.e. children of female and male political prisoners of Nazism. What could it have meant to them to grow up in a home where violence and fear were recorded in the bodies and memories of their parents? In what situations did echoes of the past war resonate in everyday life in the Polish People's Republic? Did and how did the biographies of parents shape the memory and experiences of their descendants? The story constructed in the book is a polyphony, reproducing the complicated experiences of the first post-war generation. The author proposes that the popular concept of transgenerational trauma be applied to the lens of everyday, ordinary suffering. In turn, her methodology indicates the value of long-term cooperation between the researcher and the researched - for both sides.
