The book contains selected works by the author devoted to specific types of art (music, theatre, fine arts and literature) and specific works of these arts. The articles on the arts examine theoretical and historical problems common to these arts: the place of music in the culture of the 20th century; the specifics of the theatre and the state of the Russian theatre at the beginning of the 21st century, the significance of K. S. Stanislavsky’s theatrical philosophy for the contemporary theatre, the theme of love in the contemporary theatre in the context of culture, the phenomenon of the theatre festival as an institution of artistic culture; the specifics of the artistic worldview and its representation in poetic style. The articles devoted to specific creators of art and their works are presented in two types of texts: historical-theoretical and artistic-critical, but are united by a common dual task of co-creative understanding-interpretation of the creator and his creation. The first type includes articles about A. M. Gorky as a modernist playwright, about Shostakovich, about overcoming internal emigration in the poetry of O. E. Mandelstam, about his concept of spiritual-organic form, about cultural fatigue in the poetry of I. Brodsky, about the work of the poet Rina Levinson, about typology in the work of E. Neizvestny. Art criticism is represented by articles about the jazz trio of Ganelin - Tarasov - Chekasin and Schubert's Winter Journey performed by F. Boesch; about the performances of Yu. Butusov, L. Dodin, G. Kozlov, A. Praudin, A. Titel, G. Tskhvirava, performances of the Omsk Drama Theater and the Perm Theater-Theater; about the work of artists A. Alekseev, M. Brusilovsky, V. Volovich, A. Efremov, A. Kalashnikov, V. Kravtsev, P. Kukushkin, N. Predein.
