There are about 170 illuminated manuscripts and fragments in museums in the historical territory of Bohemia, including monuments that are only deposited there but are the property of other entities. They have so far been covered unsystematically in the specialist literature; for this reason, research interest in them is very unbalanced. The Catalogue of Illuminated Manuscripts in Czech Museums, created on the basis of new research and in accordance with the requirements of contemporary codicology for the description of external and internal features, and equipped with an extensive pictorial appendix, has therefore for the first time fully covered with a detailed art-historical description all the artistically decorated medieval and early modern manuscripts of the relevant institutions. The publication will thus enable researchers to navigate through the vast fund of depictions of various subjects and, as a reliable reference, can become a starting point for the work not only of historians, codicologists and art historians, but also of specialists in other scientific disciplines, both domestic and foreign, who are served by the English summary essay and the iconographic index.
