The large historical atlas of Belarus in three volumes is the first original cartographic publication in the Republic of Belarus dedicated to the historical past of our country. The presented maps reflect not only the history of Belarus, but also the entire East European region. Along with this, there are large-scale maps of individual territories, city plans, and military battles. The atlas is addressed to everyone who is engaged in scientific research or teaches domestic history, as well as to everyone who is interested in the past of our homeland.
The first volume covers the earliest periods - from the oldest traces of primitive man to the middle of the 16th century. Chronologically, it is limited to a specific date - 1569, when, as a result of the Union of Lublin, Belarusian lands became part of the Commonwealth. This is the period when the conditions for the formation of the Belarusian nationality took shape. The basis for the creation of maps laid events that were the most significant for the formation of the modern territory of Belarus.
The work on the atlas uses the achievements of domestic scientists and specialists accumulated over the years of work on the “National Atlas of Belarus”, the six-volume “Encyclopedia of the History of Belarus”, and the two-volume encyclopedia “The Grand Duchy of Lithuania” with monographic historical research on history. The authors did not ignore the experience of scientists from neighboring countries: Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Russia, Ukraine.
