The book was written and compiled by Katarina West's friend Ulla-Maija Paavilainen. West's own voice is brought to the work by text excerpts and descriptions of life in Italy that he wrote during his illness. Ulla-Maija Paavilainen is a journalist and writer who has written several popular novels and biographies. Katarina West (1970–2021) was a Finnish journalist and writer who lived in Tuscany. West's English sections were translated into Finnish by Salla Korpela.
