The monograph is devoted to the phenomenon of the culture of memory as a significant element of the local (urban) identity of the inhabitants of industrial cities. Substantially, the work consists of two parts: theoretical and empirical. The first one offers theoretical, methodological and categorical foundations of the work; the second one presents the results of a large-scale culturological study aimed at identifying and describing various types of local identity that have developed in six South Ural industrial cities (Chelyabinsk, Magnitogorsk, Zlatoust, Ozersk, Karabash and Satka), and at understanding the specifics (content, principles, forms of embodiment etc.) the culture of memory characteristic of their inhabitants.
