The book contains three touching documentary stories. One of them narrates about the famous actress Iosiko Okada who ran away from Japan together with her lover Riokichi Sugimoto, theater director, translator of Russian literature, and communist. Ten years later, however, Sugimoto was shot as a Japanese spy, and Okada was sent to the Russian GULAG for 10 years. The second one is about a correspondent of a Japanese newspaper who fell in love with a Russian girl and decided to take her away to Japan inside a travel box. And the third one represents a story about Maria Prove, a timid girl from Geneva, who came to Russia, fell in love there and got married, and then at the age of 52 was taken to Lubianka and sent to GULAG. What happened to her remained a mystery to her relatives.
