The book was compiled by the famous Lithuanian mythologist and folklorist Norbertas Velius. The publication presents with the great accuracy the mythological information found in the ancient Baltic religious and mythological sources. The scientific materials such as commentaries and indices are presented at minimum. The book devotes more attention to the oldest source materials, describing the ancient Balts way of life and customs, more effort has been made to collect and systematize them.
