The monograph examines the history of the opening and development of educational and socio-cultural activities of the southern Russian departments of the Imperial Orthodox Palestine Society in the late 19th - early 20th centuries, as well as the pilgrimage of residents of the southern provinces of the Russian Empire to the Christian shrines of the East. The history of a number of local departments of the IOPS is scientifically examined for the first time. The geography of the study covers the Astrakhan, Bessarabian, Yekaterinoslav, Stavropol, Tauride, Tiflis, Kutaisi (Georgian Exarchate), Kherson provinces, Kuban region, Don Host Region and Terek region.
