In 2019, a 2-year cooperation between the UNDP and the Ministry of Economy of Belarus "Small towns" and the "Development Bank of the Republic of Belarus" project ended. During this time, more than 1.3 thousand entrepreneurs in the regions received free training in finance for small businesses, and the Development Bank financed 605 projects in the Mogilev and Vitebsk regions for a total of 103.2 million rubles.
The state program to increase the share of small and medium-sized businesses in the country's GDP to 40% by 2021 involves the active involvement of residents of small towns in Belarus in entrepreneurial activities.
The Small Towns project expanded opportunities for business education. Aspiring entrepreneurs were offered a series of business trainings and seminars where people with no business experience learned how to start their own business.
OJSC Development Bank of the Republic of Belarus and the Belarusian Fund for Financial Support of Entrepreneurs have become permanent partners of the project in conducting training on financial issues.
UNDP's joint work with the Development Bank began with the start of the project in 2017.
