The monograph describing the position of the Russian language outside of Russia has been prepared by a team of authors from nine countries. Its sections describe the functioning of the Russian language in Belarus, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Canada and China. The historical, cultural and social preconditions of the current language situation are revealed, the modern status of the Russian language in each country and its real use are determined.
