The Tatar Iusupov family appeared in Russia in the 16th century, during the reign of Ivan the Terrible. Ivan the Terrible was on friendly terms with the Kazan Murza Iusuf. After Iusuf's death, his two sons, Il-murza and Ibrahim-murza, were sent to the Muscovite kingdom to the court of Ivan the Terrible. Upon arrival in Moscow in 1564, they entered the service of the Russian Tsar.
