A continuation of the author's previous critical interpretations of contemporary Serbian prose and its latest developmental and poetic trends. Together with the books Povratak prici and Kriticki opisi, also published in the Academic Book, Nedic's current essays form a kind of critical set dedicated to a new vision of the literature of our time and point to certain internal changes in modern Serbian prose that have had a special influence on the creative processes of our prominent storytellers and novelists. The division of the book into three compositional units – poetic, genre and interpretative – is conditional in nature, because the critical procedure in most essays, as a rule, relies on recognizing the evolutionary context within which the analyzed works were written, on the poetic dominants of each work in particular, and on its most significant morphological, stylistic and semantic characteristics. The writers included in the book after its introductory part – D. Cosic, V. Colanovic, D. Mihailovic, S. Stojanovic, M. Popovic, G. Olujic, Z. Pavlovic, M. Vuksanovic, R. Beli Markovic, D. Kekanovic, D. Kovacevic and J. Radulovic – provided many reasons for new critical insights into the interpreted literary works and into the poetic challenges of Serbian literature emerging at the end of the previous century and in the first two decades of the current century.
