The correspondence of the great Russian composer P. I. Tchaikovsky (1840-1893) with N. F. von Meck (1831-1894) is a significant part of his enormous epistolary legacy. The five volumes of Series XVII-A of the Academic Complete Works of P. I. Tchaikovsky publish more than 1,200 letters in full, without cuts, including about two dozen previously unpublished letters discovered in recent years. All letters have been textually verified based on sources identified to date. The third volume includes all the letters of both correspondents known to date for the years 1879-1881. A significant number of N. F. von Meck's letters are published for the first time, and many are reproduced in full for the first time from their autographs.
