The correspondence of the great Russian composer Pyotr Tchaikovsky (1840-1893) with N. F. von Meck (1831-1894) is a significant part of his enormous epistolary legacy. The five volumes of Series XVII-A of the Academic Complete Works of Pyotr Tchaikovsky publish more than 1,200 letters in full, without cuts, including about two dozen previously unpublished letters discovered in recent years. All the letters have been textually verified based on the sources identified to date. The first volume includes significant accompanying materials from various archives, as well as from the private collection of the von Meck family, most of which are also being published for the first time. The book features a large number of unique photographs from the personal archive of Pyotr Tchaikovsky, the collection of the State Memorial Musical Museum-Reserve of Pyotr Tchaikovsky and the private archive of the von Meck family, kindly provided by its descendants.
