Hulagu was a 10-year-old boy when his grandfather Chingiz Khan died. When his uncle Ogedey Khan died, he was considered a 24-year-old Mughal prince. He was a 35-year-old commander when his brother Mangu Khan sent him on a trip to the Middle East. He was 41 years old when he eliminated the Ismailis and the Abbasid caliphate and wrote his name in the line of Mongol conquerors. At the age of 42, he became a leader who changed the course of Mughal political history. When Hulagu died at the age of 48, he had already created a different Mongol world together with his brother Kublai. Having put an end to the dreams of his grandfather and uncles, Hulagu declared himself Elkhan and built a new "Muslim world" from the combination of Seljuk-Mongol traditions. Hulagu Khan, who combined the Mongol character with the Muslim way of life, became the religious and political architect of the Middle East.
