Minsk State Linguistic University (until 1993 - Minsk State Pedagogical Institute of Foreign Languages) began its activities as an independent higher education institution on September 1, 1948. It consisted of three faculties - English, German and French. The institute was created on the basis of the Faculty of Foreign Languages of the Minsk State Pedagogical Institute named after. Gorky. Since its creation, it has been the only higher educational institution in the republic for the training of foreign language teachers for secondary schools, teachers of higher and secondary specialized educational institutions, as well as translators.
Currently, MSLU provides training in 23 foreign languages and 15 specializations. The structure of the university includes 6 faculties, master's, postgraduate, doctoral studies, a branch of the Moscow State Linguistic University "Linguistic and Humanitarian College", the Institute for Advanced Studies and Retraining of Personnel, the Faculty of Russian Language for Foreign Citizens, the Confucius Institute, the training center "Evening Courses" of the Moscow State Linguistic University and 7 branches of departments. The university has more than 7 thousand students and one and a half thousand employees. MSLU has become an alma mater for students from more than 40 countries.
