The monograph is devoted to the identification of matriarchal manifestations of early forms of religion in the cosmogonic myths of the peoples of the Ural-Volga region: Bashkirs, Maris, Russians. The author dwells in detail on animistic, totemistic, fetishistic myths and cults of the Ural-Volga ethnic groups, reconstructing their main images and plots: the image of the Foremother (Great Mother) and the Heavenly Wife (wife of the supreme heavenly god), dating back to the times of the North Eurasian mythological union.
