The edition is dedicated to the performance “Masquerade” of the same name as Lermontov’s drama by the stage director V. Meierkhold and designer A. Golovin in the Alexandrine Theatre. This performance, the opening night of which occurred the 25th of February, 1917 could be named “Empire Decline” and was the last play in the tsarist Russia where the February Revolution flared up. Original version of Lermontov’s drama, rich illustrated materials from the collection of the Theatre Museum named after A.A. Bakhrushin such as drafts of theatre sets, costumes, stage properties, created by A. Golovin, commentaries of drafts give an opportunity to imagine brilliance, splendour and uniqueness of this performance. The sublime play presents fine combination of theatre genres and intertwining of artistic schools.
