Each novel introduces a commentary on one or more older photographs, from which the portraits and details are placed, placed in the wider context of the time and space of the recording, mostly of Maribor in the 19th and 20th centuries. Each narrative has a documentary pole, based on realistic documentary facts, and a fictional or literary pole stemming from the first. Everything is happening from Trieste to Prague, and at the same time Maribor is always embedded in it.
