Luninets District is located in the eastern part of the Brest Region. It was approved as an administrative unit on January 15, 1940. The first written mention of the district dates back to 1432 - the village of Lunin. The administrative center itself, the city of Luninets, was mentioned in 1449. In the Middle Ages, the settlements of Lakhva and Kozhan-Gorodok, which were closer to the main trade routes, played a significant role in shaping the economy of the district.
The growth and development of Luninets and the entire district was directly related to the construction of the railway. In the 1880s, one of the branches of the Polesie railway passed through here, Luninets became one of the stations. This opened up new economic opportunities for the district, and crafts and local production began to grow rapidly.
After the First World War, the district came under the jurisdiction of Poland. The lands were returned to Belarus in 1939 and became part of the BSSR. Luninets is called the strawberry capital of Belarus, it is here that the festival in honor of this berry is held. In autumn, the biker festival is held on the shore of Lake Shalnoye, where motorcycle enthusiasts from the CIS and Europe gather. And on the Veluta reservoir, guests are welcome to the NOVOPARTY music festival.
