M. Weller first book of short stories Wanna Be a Street Sweeper was published in 1983. It immediately attracted attention of critics and readers by its precise and resourceful style and surprising plots. The Heartbreaker (1988), The Technology of a Short Story (1989), A Rendez-vous With a Celebrity (1990) followed. Next two books became bestsellers - an educational novel Major Zvyagins Adventures (1991) and Legends of Nevsky Prospect (1993) that critics called the most amusing book of the latest years. A short novel The Knife of Seryozcha Dovlatov caused a literary scandal. His last bestseller, the novel The Herald From Piza (2000) was printed 11 times during this year. M. Weller is the most published of non-commercial Russian writers - a total circulation of his books is about 400 thousand copies in 38 editions only during year 2000. His stories and novels are published in literary magazines, such as Literaturnaya Gazeta, Znamya, Oktyabr, Druzсhba Narodov, Ogonyok etc.
