The Supreme Lithuanian Liberation Committee is rightly considered to be the representative of the political will of the entire Lithuanian nation, and not of its part - the diaspora. This is based on the very composition of VLIK - it represents almost all (except the communists) political currents that spread the moods of Lithuanian society differentiated in this sense. VLIK, which was formed in the Homeland during the Nazi occupation and was re-established in Germany during the Soviet occupation, realistically reflected the politically organized society of Lithuania and therefore expressed its expectations for the restoration of an independent, democratic state. Raising the case for the freedom of Lithuania, first in the Homeland, then in the West, remained the main position on the agenda of VLIK during all periods of occupation and grew into a permanent mission of representing the nation. In the publication, which is intended to provide basic knowledge about VLIK, by following the traces of the activities of its leaders, the general features of the mission to liberate Lithuania are revealed, covering a period of half a century, i.e. 1943-1993 years.
