The monograph highlights relevant conceptual and legal issues of the participation of a lawyer in the criminal proceedings of the Russian Federation. The provision of qualified legal assistance by a lawyer was analyzed from the standpoint of his procedural status (counsel, representative, acting “in the third” status). Based on a thorough analysis of the norms of international normative legal acts and domestic legislation, the doctrinal developments of prominent domestic scholars, methodologically starting from the importance of legal protection of participants in criminal proceedings, the consonance with its purpose in criminal proceedings, the author offers a number of recommendations of a scientific and practical plan regarding the participation of a lawyer (mainly - counsel) in evidence in criminal matters.
