Anatoly Gurevich (“Kent”) was one of the members of the Soviet reconnaissance group “Red Chapel”. Anatoly Gurevich was born on November 7, 1913 in Kharkov. In March 1940, he was the first of the Soviet intelligence officers to report to Moscow about the impending attack of Nazi Germany on the USSR. He managed to establish intelligence connections with the outstanding German anti-fascist Schulze-Boysen, a high-ranking German officer, as a result of which Soviet military intelligence began to receive information of extreme importance. It was Resident Kent who, in the fall of 1941, reported to his homeland about the impending Wehrmacht attack in the Caucasus and Stalingrad directions. This made it possible not only to turn the tide of military events in the future, but also to save the lives of many thousands of Soviet people.
In the fall of 1942, resident Kent was arrested by the Gestapo, but did not betray his comrades. He spent a long time in the dungeons of Belgium, France and Germany. He was even kept on death row, constantly in handcuffs and leg shackles.
Due to interdepartmental rivalry between Soviet military intelligence and the NKVD foreign intelligence, Resident Kent was accused of uncommitted crimes, resulting in a stay in Soviet camps for almost 13 years. Only in July 1991 was he completely rehabilitated, although the unprecedented feats he performed have still not been fully appreciated.
