The title represents the biography of Lavr Georgievich Kornilov, a kind of "portrait on the background of the epoch" of one of the leaders of White Movement in Russia. It was a distinguished personality who was a spy of the Russian General Staff, a hero of Russian-Japanese war and a Supreme Commander-in-Chief in the end of World War II, an initiator of the first Kuban "Ice" campaign of the White voluntary Army. The term "kornilovets" is a synonym of a counter-revolutionary - within the Revolution and the Great Patriotic War Bolsheviks (Reds) held up to shame all people favoring the old regime.
