The monograph presents a scientific survey of the history of Ukrainian dramatic and stage art, the activity of national dramatists, artistic directors, actors and scene-painters in the XXth century. The author, O.V. Krasilnikova (senior research worker of the Theatrical Department of Rylsky Art Institute, of Folk and Ethnology National Academy of Sciences (Ukraine), professor of Kiev Theatre Institute) shows the history of national theatre without ideological prejudices, accenting historical dynamics of aesthetic processes. In the monograph materials of Ukrainian diaspora are used for the first time together with memoirs, documents, photos, other issues from private and state archives, unknown before.
