Marcello D'Orta was born in 1953 in Naples. Primary teacher, he taught for schools in the Neapolitan territory for fifteen years. This experience inspired and provided the material for his first book, Io speriamo che me la cavo, which proved a sales success, something unprecedented for a book of its kind, adapted for the cinema in 1992 by Lina Wertmuller.
