For the first time in domestic and international historiography, the collective monograph analyses the challenges in the formation of ethnic history and culture of the Taz people – one of the indigenous small-numbered peoples of the Primorye region. The study is based on research and literary sources, field data and archive materials. The paper describes the ethnic composition of the Tazy people, their names and self-designations, the origin of family names, the changes in population and settlement in the past 100 years. The ethnic and economic system with its peculiarities of material and spiritual culture is closely examined: occupations, tools, types of dwellings and settlements, food, clothes, means of transport, beliefs and ceremonies, folk knowledge and other aspects.
