The study is devoted to one of the most difficult moments of our military history - the initial period of the Great Patriotic War in the strip of the Grodno fortified district, which was located from the village of Yatvez at the Neman River to the town of Gonends at the Osovets fortress (now it is the territory of the Republic of Belarus and Poland).
Extensive factual material, including unique archival data, memoirs of eyewitnesses and participants of the border defense in the bunker zone of the Grodno fortified area, not only for the first time recreates the real picture of the progress of construction of fortifications and gives an assessment of the degree of their combat readiness, but also introduces the tragic fate and feat of soldiers and commanders in June 1941 year.
