This is a book about how people in war are actually alive. They make stupid jokes and cry real tears, swim in warm summer lakes and make snowmen near dugouts, pet cats and scratch dogs, violate all sorts of regulations and quarrel with commanders, clean machine guns and cook borscht, read books and breed chickens, and do much more. a lot of things, except, in fact, the war process. Because they are really alive. The author was lucky to meet such people on the most exciting, albeit difficult and nervous, journey in life - on the endless road of a field volunteer.
