It is no coincidence that Georgian and Cappadocian figures who rose to prominence in the ecclesiastical and military arenas of the Byzantine Empire are presented together in the monograph. After the Behistun inscription carved by order of the Assyrian king Tiglath-Pileser I called it "Cabbadokia" (the land of beautiful horses), the word "Cabbadokia" acquired an ethnic meaning. From that time on, the Musk/Meskhs settled in the vast territory east of the Halys River, to the headwaters of the Euphrates River, and the southern Black Sea region were called Cappadocians.
