We considered geographical names of the Irkutsk region both recent and previously lost. Etymological transcript of names is given; historical information about appearance of the names is presented, especially of settlements. The names are classified by type of place-names and considered according the districts. The review involved approximately 8,000 geographical names within the area of the region.
