The main goal of the present work is to examine the criminal offenses in the period 1944-1989. In addition to capturing and recreating their characteristics in their entirety, we will try to present in more detail the four most significant types among them - theft of public and personal property, robberies, rapes and intentional murders. On the basis of specific data, the majority of which are published here for the first time, the related trends will be highlighted and explained, characteristic of this dynamic and intense period of political and social transformation in Bulgarian history. The absence of such statistics makes possible the existence and use of a number of arbitrary and untrue claims. In addition, we will try to understand the reasons for committing criminal offenses, describe the transformation both among lawbreakers and the methods used by the bodies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Prosecutor's Office, the Court and places of serving sentences in the fight against crime, and the aspiration to resocialization of citizens who have already served effective sentences. The state of the law enforcement agencies themselves, in their capacity as a major factor in the implementation of prevention and investigation of already committed violations of the law, is also the subject of detailed attention in the following pages. We will dwell in detail on the professionalism, financial and social security of the militiamen as part of their motivation to fight against crimes.
