The book Mentis oculis deals with the key themes of the painting and theoretical work of Frantisek Kupka (1871-1957), who was one of the first artists in the world to reject the imitation of external reality. He developed his own conceptualization related to the transition of object art into the non-object and objectless. The five chapters trace the riveting trajectory of his work from his arrival in Paris in the mid-1890s, when he realized the painting Biblioman, which he always placed at the beginning of his oeuvre, to the final 1950s, when he painted the important painting Lone White late in life. The various sections deal with different ways of appropriating phenomenal reality and representing the human figure, the contrast between literal meaning and the phrase cosa mentale, the twists and turns between primary and complementary colours, the focus on the dream and the split personality, and the relationship between the construction of thought and contemporary architecture. The interconnected theoretical framework reveals interfaces concerning Kupka's approach to the body, soul and spirit, which allow us to place his legacy in a rich context with contemporary aesthetics, philosophy, perceptual theory and psychiatry. After overcoming the allegorical and symbolist periods, Kupka built his unique world from the stimuli provided by the "eyes of the mind".
