Fortresses, castles and other fortifications in Romania is a four-volume project, for the first time collecting data and images related to defense architecture. This volume can be read to the same extent as the collection of military history of the three countries around the Carpathians in the sixteenth century - from the Battle of Mohach (1526) to the death of Mikhail the Brave (1601), with a special emphasis on the problematic history of Transylvania.
The book contains more than 130 images: old photographs, aerial photographs, historical drawings and plans of fortified places, little-known engravings and documents from Romanian and especially foreign archives - German, Hungarian, Austrian. The historical reconstructions of Radu Oltean for the first time give readers vivid images of fortified cities and monasteries, as it was four centuries ago.
