Valentyn Chemerys (1936—2016) is famous Ukrainian writer, author of historical and fantasy novels and short stories, novels-essays, collections of humor, satire, parodies, works for children, laureate of many literary prizes. The novel "Fortress on Borysfen" is dedicated to a fairly short period of time in the Ukrainian history. Small, but very important, which became the forerunner of the Great Liberation War led by Bohdan Khmelnytskyi. The events begin in the summer of 1635, when Zaporozhian Cossacks, led by hetman Ivan Sulyma, destroyed the Kodak fortress on the Dnieper, and end with the Battle of Kumeiky, during which the Ukrainians worthily defended their honor and land from the Polish nobility, and only betrayal prevented them from winning.
