After the September 9 coup in 1944, Bulgarians in Pirin Macedonia were subjected to double terror - those who disagreed with the actions of the communist regime fell victim to brutal repression, and the forcible Macedonianization of the population began - replacing its Bulgarian identity with "Macedonian". Many young people remain at a dead end for their future, they feel doomed… The braver ones seek salvation in exile - some cross the border with Greece illegally, at the risk of their lives, others choose the supposedly easier way - escape through Yugoslavia with ultimate goal of the West…
The emigrants who sought Tito's "paradise" turned their lives into a real hell - some were returned by the UDBA to Bulgaria as saboteurs and agitators for the accession of Pirin Macedonia to Yugoslavia, and those who did not comply with the rules of "democratic" Yugoslav communism and seek to go to the West, end up in prisons and concentration camps, where they are subjected to cruel inquisitions and humiliations, some lose their lives…
