The monograph is devoted to one of the areas of Economics – spatial economics, i.e. identifying problem areas of spatial economics; its place in the system of disciplines that explore the economy and society; organizing objects of study and the delineation of boundaries in the field of methodology. The authors assume that the spatial economics is an integral part of a system of spatial analysis firstly aimed at the study, measuring and maximizing of economic system effects in space and, secondly, achieving a general social equilibrium. Structure of the book is bound up with the assumption that understanding of spatial economics in the system of economic sciences requires to trace the evolution of theories and methodological approaches, aiming at the description, explanation and prediction of the different manifestations of economic activity and its results in the space. The evolution of spatial economics does not mean the alternation of different theories or paradigms but the evolution of research programs within the national scientific schools: German, French (continental), Anglo-Saxon and Russian.
