September 8, 1963. In the "Metropoliten" hotel in Moscow investigators from the Bulgarian State Security publically arrested the diplomat Ivan Asen Georgiev. Suspicions are for espionage and treason. It is clearly that the Bulgarian State Security wants to create similar case like the case of Colonel Oleg Penkovski in USSR. The similarity between the two cases is like the similarity between a horse and chicken. Analogies are grotesque: Penkovski is a spy from world caliber. Georgiev is simply underrated bon vivant. The trial of Ivan Asen Georgiev will, however, be qualified as disclosure and redress the largest spy affair in the new Bulgarian history. In fact it is a propaganda extravaganza. Who is the mythical Ivan Asen Georgiev, set for the biggest traitor and turncoat in Bulgaria?
