Dubois de Montpere Frederic (1798-1850) - Swiss French, encyclopedically educated scientist. On a journey made in 1832-1834. relied on the development of prominent European and Russian scientists. His "Journey in the Caucasus and Crimea" received the most flattering distinctions from the geographical societies of Paris (Grand Prix), Berlin, London and St. Petersburg. The Russian Emperor Nicholas I awarded the author with the Order of St. Stanislav with the attachment of a large sum of money, which made it possible to publish the luxurious Atlas of the author's drawings in the form of lithographs, which are especially valuable in that they convey not only the artist's impressions, but also the observations of a geologist, archaeologist, historian.
The presented book publishes the first two chapters of the 6-volume work of Dubois de Montpere, dedicated to the Crimea, accompanied by lithographs by the author himself, which have practically never been published before.
